HEATWAVE - SCHOOL CLOSED FROM 1.00PM ON TUESDAY 23RD, WEDNESDAY 24TH & THURSDAY 25TH JUNE
Following discussions with other local Headteachers within Pickwick Academy Trust and in consultation with senior leaders, we have made the difficult decision to amend the school day this week due to the forecast of extreme temperatures.
Even today, temperatures have made both indoor and outdoor learning conditions uncomfortable. The forecast for the coming days shows significantly higher temperatures, particularly during the afternoon, and we feel it would be unsafe and unwise to continue operating as normal.
Tuesday 23 June
School will open as usual at the normal start time.
However, due to the short notice and the forecast of even higher temperatures than today, we are offering parents and carers the option of collecting their child at 1:00 pm. The school building becomes particularly hot during the afternoon, and we appreciate that some families may prefer to collect their children earlier.
If you would like to collect your child at 1:00 pm, please notify the school office in advance so that we can make the necessary arrangements.
Children who remain in school will continue to be supervised and supported as normal, with measures in place to help keep them as cool and comfortable and possible.
Wednesday 24 June
School will open as usual at the normal start time.
The school day will finish at 1:00 pm. Pupils will have lunch before leaving school, helping to avoid the hottest part of the day.
Thursday 25 June
School will open as usual at the normal start time.
The school day will again finish at 1:00 pm, with pupils having lunch before they leave school.
Additional Information
- Existing measures relating to clothing, sun protection, hydration and other heat-related adaptations will remain in place throughout the week.
- If you are unable to make arrangements for the early finishes on Wednesday and Thursday, please contact the school office. We will do our best to support alternative arrangements where possible.
- The Year 5 sailing trip to Portland will go ahead as planned following consultation with the sailing centre and in light of the more favourable temperatures forecast on the coast. Should this change, we will communicate with parents as soon as possible.
Thank you for your understanding and continued support as we take these measures to ensure the safety and wellbeing of all pupils.
